Our store has been buzzing with new events! It’s been a pleasure to connect with customers and brand partners this fall. There are more exciting events to come! Keep an eye on our events page for the latest and to join us in store.
Check out everything that happened at Fahrney’s in September and October:

Kaweco DIY Sport Event
In September, we had the pleasure to host a Kaweco DIY Sport GLOW event in the store. Customers had the rare opportunity to assemble their own exclusive Kaweco Sport GLOW fountain pen using the same process performed by hand each day at Kaweco’s factory in Nuremberg, Germany. This year's glow-in-the-dark Sport edition absorbs natural or UV light before revealing a striking luminous finish once the lights go down. Customers created their own truly unique Kaweco Sport GLOW pen, while gaining a deeper appreciation for the Kaweco craftsmanship.
Because the experience is an essential part of the pen itself, the Kaweco DIY Sport GLOW is only available exclusively at in-store events and cannot be purchased online. We look forward to hosting another Kaweco DIY event again soon!

Earl Fahrney Day Celebration
On September 25, 1950, Mr. Earl Fahrney opened his doors at 1408 F Street in Washington, DC. Seventy-six years later, Fahrney’s Pens is once again home at the place where this chapter of our story began, making this an especially meaningful milestone for our store.
There was lots of celebratory revelry at the store to commemorate the very first Earl Fahrney Day. Customers enjoyed browsing the shop, exploring Fahrney’s exclusive pens and stationery, like our annual Retro51 Cherry Blossom exclusive pen, and all our shop’s special details showcasing Fahrney's past and present.

If you’re visiting Washington, D.C., make sure to visit us in the historic Willard Hotel!

Nib Grinding with J.J. Lax Pen Co.
Customers brought their fountain pens in for a little expert attention during a special two-day visit from our friend, Josh Lax of the J.J. Lax Pen Company. In addition to his fountain pen knowledge and guidance, Josh offered his expert nib work and adjustment services on-site.
Having a nib technician in-store not only allowed customers to take advantage of Josh’s skills to customize their fountain pens but also provides our team with educational opportunities to learn more about grind details and their uses.
We are very excited to welcome Josh back again soon!

Pilot
At the beginning of October we welcomed Bill from Pilot for a special in-store event. Customers got a closer look at the breadth of Pilot’s fountain pen lineup with the chance to explore and test every currently available Pilot fountain pen. Bill graciously helped answer questions, demonstrate models and mechanisms, and share his knowledge on Pilot nibs, models and writing experiences.
It was great to both be reminded of the immense selection of Pilot’s nib variety, and to allow our visitors to experience them in person while also having the opportunity to debut the brand-new Pilot MR Chanomegumi Limited Edition pens – which were available early at select physical stores during the month of October.

While demonstration models at events do not necessarily reflect our current in-store inventory, you can check out the available Pilot pens we have online or visit us in the store. Select Pilot pens may be available for immediate purchase, while others can be special-ordered with assistance from the Fahrney’s team.

Faber-Castell
On Saturday, October 10th, customers had the chance to explore and put pen to paper with an exciting array of writing instruments from Faber-Castell. Brand representative, Rachel showed us all the new and classic pen offerings from the Faber-Castell catalog.
Our store team was fascinated while learning more about Faber-Castell’s wood pens, and the sustainability of their manufacturing. Hearing more about Faber-Castell’s history and enduring legacy reminded us that there’s much to discover behind this brand.

If you can’t make it to the store, take a look at our current collection of Faber-Castell pens available online.

Yafa Brands Takeover
To close out October, we welcomed YAFA Brands for a special takeover event at the store. Brand representative, Ken helped customers explore and browse an exciting selection of writing instruments. This special opportunity featured an expanded selection of pens to explore and purchase, including some of the newest releases and standout favorites across YAFA Brands.

While it’s common for YAFA to be quickly associated with Conklin and Monteverde, they partner with many other brands as well, such as Stipula – which surprises our team with a fascinating pen called the “Muzzle Loader” that we look forward to offering soon in our store.

Additionally, seeing Conklin’s new 1898 Solaris fountain pen was a surprise – it being the first epoxy resin fountain pen that we’ve ever seen! Of course, the Cobra and the Viper from Diplomat were big hits as well.

For the latest pens from YAFA Brands, check out our current selection online or visit us in-person.
Thanks to everyone who joined us for this exciting season of events at Fahrney’s!
